Episode 7 – Vivian Baron’s story: Building a business of her heart – and letting it go again
/Listen to our lighthearted conversation just days before the forced closure of Deer Tulum. Sitting and chatting in the lively co-working space of the interior design store, neither Vivian or me would’ve thought how different the world could look only a few weeks ahead. But, this is the flow of live – or, as Vivian yet unknowingly put it so fittingly in our episode: "This place is moving like a beautiful dance. Dancing with it is the only way to live."
Vivian Baron was in born in Mexico City, where she worked in the fashion industry and now owns the PR agency Band of Insiders. She has been coming to the Riviera Maya since over 20 years for vacations or to visit her friends. Being absolutely in love with Tulum, it was clear to her that it will be the place for her to open a second business and to write a new story.
From the end of 2018, she enriched our small beach town with Deer Tulum – a 300 square meter design heaven bursting with modern furniture and selected home goods of the best quality made in Mexico. But not only that: her concept for the store was also that it should be bursting with life. And yes, her brilliant co-working vision was a success. Deer Tulum evolved to a meeting point for the whole creative community. At the big wooden table in the center of the showroom start-ups grew, ideas bloomed, friendships started, activism rooted…before Corona pushed the world into lockdown and the doors of many businesses shut forever.
Deer Tulum will be hardly missed by all of us. Thank you Vivian, for thinking ahead, bringing your vision to life and making us part of this experience. I’m positive that saying goodbye to Deer Tulum is not a farewell from you, but more or a "see you again soon".
